Becca Thorne is currently based in Leicester, UK, where she works from her spare room studio, creating hand printed pieces in linocut, screenprint and wood engraving.

The majority of her illustration work is linocut, printed using a teaspoon-baren and water-based inks, which dry faster than traditional oil-based mediums, allowing for longer to be spent on designing and cutting and less on waiting for inks to dry.  Some more colourful illustrations, which require several printed layers, are pieced together digitally for speed and accuracy, though she still uses more traditional and unpredictable techniques when the situation allows.

Originally from the ancient Forest of Dean on the England/Wales border, Becca studied BA and MA Illustration at Falmouth College of Arts on the south Cornwall coast, graduating in 2004/05 respectively. She's been working full-time as an illustrator since 2008.

Repeat clients include BBC History Magazine, The Folio Society and National Trust Books.  Becca's also had the pleasure to work with Kyle Books, Sight & Sound Magazine, Canongate Books, HarperCollins, The Earth Island Journal, eatbigfish, Compassionate Dorset, YSC, GQ Magazine, Continuum Books, phd, Anchor Canada, Rugby Borough Council and many more.

The beautiful and wild areas she's lived and travelled, from English beaches to New Zealand mountains, continue to inform and inspire her practice, as does the work of printmakers such as Sybil Andrews, Lill Tschudi, Cyril Edward Power and Medieval woodcutters and illuminators.

When not printmaking Becca likes to tend her allotment, crochet, or wander the countryside. She also tutors part-time on the Graphic Design with Illustration course at DeMontfort University, but you're most likely to find her curled up on the sofa with a book.
